How can EMDR Therapy help your clients?
EMDR is not only a protocol but since 2010, it became a therapy model, what this means, is that it’s expansive and comprehensive. EMDR Therapy has several protocols for symptom specific treatment and options for standard protocol modifications.
Here are a few helpful questions, points that can help you as the therapist decide what the best approach might be:
Based on Phase 1 and Phase 2, is your client ready to proceed with the standard protocol? why yes or why no?
If yes, it is important to have a clear and specific target memory, make sure to take your time distilling the NC. The most effective outcome comes from a clear focus.
If no, can restricted reprocessing EMDr help? or does the client need additional preparation and frontloading of strengths? Can the EMD protocol help or the reverse protocol (starting with future template) help?
Other protocols to consider based on your client’s needs are PODs (points of distress) protocol and recent event protocol.
