How can EMDR Therapy help your clients?

EMDR is not only a protocol but since 2010, it became a therapy model, what this means, is that it’s expansive and comprehensive. EMDR Therapy has several protocols for symptom specific treatment and options for standard protocol modifications.

Here are a few helpful questions, points that can help you as the therapist decide what the best approach might be:

  • Based on Phase 1 and Phase 2, is your client ready to proceed with the standard protocol? why yes or why no?

  • If yes, it is important to have a clear and specific target memory, make sure to take your time distilling the NC. The most effective outcome comes from a clear focus.

  • If no, can restricted reprocessing EMDr help? or does the client need additional preparation and frontloading of strengths? Can the EMD protocol help or the reverse protocol (starting with future template) help?

  • Other protocols to consider based on your client’s needs are PODs (points of distress) protocol and recent event protocol.
